Balmain Heritage Conservation Design Project

New frontal view of the the Balmain heritage conservation project. The dwelling is situated in a street which is conservation listed. As the front elevation ground floor plans bed 2, bed 3 and entry doors could not be altered at all. The dwelling needed major repairs inside and out to return the building back to its former glory.
The client desired a spacious home that being sympathetic to its heritage significance and surroundings. The design vision was captured and we went to work... As you can see, she needed a serious makeover.

Rear of building view - The brief was to do major alterations and additions to the ground floor area while taking into consideration the heritage significance. The brief was also to make a new sub floor area so as to bring the useable floor space to the maximum potential while complying with all Leichhardt councils Lep & Dcp. The polished timber floor flows out through bi-fold doors to the polished timber deck alfresco area, bringing the outside in.
The client desired a spacious home that being sympathetic to its heritage significance and surroundings. The dwelling is now a relatively large spacious home on the site. Despite being in the city you feel secluded in your own living space with a resort style atmosphere.
Skylights create a light and open feel to the home enhancing the polished timber floors. Timber stairs with a glass balustrade add to the light and open feel that flows down into the sub-floor lounge.
The architectural design envisaged a functional entry with the ground floor having 3 bedrooms, study & spacious bathroom. The main bedroom would have and ensuite and walk in robe.
